The Norwegian Minister of Finance Jens Stoltenberg stated this during the Munich Security Conference on Sunday, February 16.
According to Stoltenberg, the Russians are currently publicly spreading demands for Ukraine not to join NATO. Additionally, the occupiers are insisting on demilitarization, neutrality, and the cessation of military aid from the West.
"Ukraine will lose not only territory but also independence. The issue is not just about the boundaries of the agreement, but also about what kind of independence Ukraine will have afterward. If they yield to the demands, Ukraine will no longer be an independent state," — Stoltenberg noted.
He also added that "the situation is becoming more complicated," and much remains uncertain. What is known for sure is that Ukraine's success depends on military strength on the battlefield, according to Stoltenberg.
Recall that the Norwegian Minister of Finance also responded to the proposal from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The head of state stated that it is time for Europe to establish its own Armed Forces.
Jens Stoltenberg also emphasized that now is a very opportune moment to increase pressure on the Russian Federation. He pointed out that Russia's economy is weakening, and battlefield losses are increasing.
Furthermore, the former NATO Secretary General stated that everyone needs to be cautious when discussing potential outcomes of negotiations. According to Stoltenberg, the situation on the front can change at any moment.
The Norwegian Minister of Finance also confirmed the tense relations between Europe and the USA. He noted that there are some disagreements and differences, but this needs to change.
