This was reported by Ivan Rusev, a research associate at the "Tuzlovskyi Lymany" national park.
He states that this winter, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of wild geese over the lymans, which have arrived from occupied territories. The main places where they roost are the Alibey, Khadzhider, Solenyi, Djantshyisky, and Small Sasyk lymans.
"Geese are very sensitive to noise. In the occupied territories of Kherson and Crimea, hunting is unrestricted, which drives them away from these regions in search of safety. Fortunately, hunting geese has been prohibited in Ukraine for the third consecutive year, allowing them to feel more secure.", Rusev explained.
According to the ecologist, geese also react to the flight of drones, particularly those of the Armed Forces of Ukraine that patrol the coastline.
"When the birds hear gunfire or see drones, they change their locations for a certain period.", he added.
A significant portion of the geese feed during the day in fields of rapeseed and winter crops, returning to the lymans at night. Rusev notes that the increase in their numbers in the "Tuzlovskyi Lymany" is nature's response to the threats of war.
"We must provide them with maximum protection, as these birds are a symbol of our wildlife and witnesses to tragic events.", the ecologist concluded.
It is worth mentioning that last night, Russian invaders attacked Ukraine with 61 Shahed-type strike drones and various types of imitation drones. We also reported that Western partners will transfer 19 air defense systems to Ukraine.
