The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) forecasts that by 2050, the share of renewable energy sources (RES) in electricity generation within Eastern Partnership countries should reach 32%, reported the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.
According to the head of the ministry, Svitlana Hrynchuk, as stated in her Telegram channel on Friday, Ukraine's objective is to unite efforts with European partners to create an energy system independent of fossil fuels and ensure a just transition for coal regions.
"Even during the war, Ukraine continues its course towards a green transition, demonstrating the ambition of its climate goals. A successful green transition is the key to our energy independence and climate resilience," she said in a video address at the event "Overcoming Barriers to Renewable Energy Integration in Eastern Partnership Countries," held on Friday at COP29 in Baku.
The Eastern Partnership includes Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Belarus.
