Бывший министр иностранных дел Литвы поддержал позицию Трампа по отношению к Путину.

The former Lithuanian foreign minister has endorsed Trump's stance on Putin.

Former Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis commented on Donald Trump's statements in support of Vladimir Putin. The ex-official suggests that Putin now finds himself in a challenging situation.

Gabrielius Landsbergis expressed this on social media X.

Trump Puts Putin in a Tight Spot

Gabrielius Landsbergis stated that Putin likely did not anticipate an ultimatum from Trump.

"President Trump has put Putin in a difficult situation by issuing an ultimatum. I am confident that Putin expected otherwise. Now Putin has to choose — to accept that he fears new sanctions, given that his economy is in ruins, or to prove that his imperialist ambitions will not be constrained by these demands," he wrote on social media.

Despite this, Gabrielius Landsbergis believes that sanctions alone are insufficient to pressure Putin and hinted that the European Union countries should be bolder and support Trump's initiative.

"The ultimatum is a step in the right direction, but we need to do more – not just sanctions, but also military support and security guarantees. We must weigh the Ukrainian strength of the West. By the way, if the EU wants to appear authoritative, it could at least announce its support for Trump's sanctions. And I believe that even Orban will now be forced to agree," Landsbergis stated.

Recall that recently Donald Trump stated that Putin is destroying Russia by refusing to agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine. Subsequently, the newly elected US president posted on social media where he again threatened Putin with new sanctions.

Meanwhile, the EU may "cancel" sanctions against Russia due to the position of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
