This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine on Telegram on Monday, January 20.
The Security Service and the State Bureau of Investigation have detained the former commander of the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This action was supported by the Minister of Defense and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
As noted by the SBU, the brigade commander failed to report a significant number of cases of unauthorized desertion. Personnel left the brigade both during training in France and while carrying out combat missions at the front.
"Currently, law enforcement is verifying information regarding the presence of corrupt schemes within the brigade during the selection of military personnel for training abroad. Information is also being checked regarding possible 'schemes' that allowed soldiers to evade their service duties in exchange for bribes," the SBU reports.
At present, the former commander of the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade is facing charges. He could face up to 10 years in prison.
Recall that the Commander of the Ground Forces, Mykhailo Drapatiy, spoke about the decisions that will be made to address the issues that have arisen in the 155th Brigade.
Media sources have stated that Volodymyr Zelensky has been briefed on the situation in the 155th Mechanized Brigade. The President has taken personal control of the investigation into this matter.
