Фронт приближается — жители Одессы требуют увеличить финансирование для Вооруженных Сил Украины.

The front is closing in—Odessans are demanding increased funding for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Today, January 18, residents of Odessa once again held a rally near the Odessa City Hall, demanding increased funding for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The citizens expressed their opposition to non-essential local budget expenditures during wartime and urged the authorities to provide greater support for the military.

This is reported by the correspondent from Novyny.LIVE.

Protest in Odesa

Residents of Odesa who participated in today's protest emphasize that the city authorities should prioritize funding for the military rather than for the renovation of cultural sites.

"We are here again because we want our guys defending Ukraine to have everything they need to fight. Every drone, every medical supply kit is a chance for our sons' lives. Recent drone purchases through the local budget were almost twice as expensive as they could have been. That's money that could have been spent on two purchases instead of one,” says Alla, the mother of a soldier.

More Funding for the Armed Forces

The mother of a soldier who has been in the trenches for almost three years feels the hardships of the front firsthand. Iryna shared her pain and concerns regarding the dire conditions at the front and the local authorities' underestimation of the military's needs. She also expressed her outrage over the drone procurement situation.

"20 drones for 1170 kilometers of front line is not a solution. We need to outpace the enemy, not catch up. Our fighters in the trenches lack the necessary support, while here they are repairing theaters and courts. This cannot be ignored. The authorities must provide our defenders with the required resources, not waste money on illusory renovations,” notes Iryna.

What is Known About Previous Protests

The first protest on Dumska Square took place back in August 2023, when volunteers learned that local authorities planned to spend over 106 million UAH on the renovation of the Kyiv District Court building in Odesa. Since then, protests have become a regular occurrence, with residents continually demanding that city officials pay more attention to the needs of the military.
