Ukrainian ports increased cargo handling by 1.78 times from January to October 2024 compared to the same period last year, reaching 82.1 million tons and generating revenue of 5.2 billion UAH and a net profit of 2.2 billion UAH during this period.
According to operational data from January to October 2024, Ukrainian seaports processed 82.1 million tons of cargo, while during the same period last year, the volume was 46.1 million tons, which is 1.78 times less than the current figure, as reported by the press service of the state enterprise (SE) Administration of Seaports of Ukraine (ASU) on Facebook on Monday.
The volume of agricultural cargo handled over 9 months reached 50.7 million tons.
The revenue of ASU during this period amounted to 5.2 billion UAH, with a net profit of 2.2 billion UAH. A payment of 3.1 billion UAH is to be made to the state budget, as stated in the report.
It is noted that the enterprise "achieved a high level of protection for critical infrastructure facilities and their elements - up to 95% in each of the ports of Ukraine."
"All branches are 100% equipped with alternative power sources, ensuring uninterrupted port operations. Throughout 2023-2024, despite the challenging security situation, there has been no instance of ports ceasing operations," the ASU report stated.
It is also reported that the ports of the Danube region remain a reliable alternative route for Ukrainian exports and critical imports, and despite ongoing enemy shelling, they ensure the stable functioning of vital logistics routes for Ukraine's economy.
Since the beginning of the year, ASU has held 200 strategic meetings with international partners, achieving several important results. In particular, a diplomatic initiative was successfully implemented to exclude the Russian Federation from the Danube Council.
"Active communication with leading global and domestic media has fostered robust international support, resulting in the attraction of technical assistance amounting to over 1.56 billion UAH, including critically important equipment such as pilot boats, booms, skimmers, construction machinery, and generators," emphasized the press service of ASU.
It was previously reported that, according to operational data from ASU, from January to September 2024, Ukrainian seaports handled 74 million tons of cargo. In the same period last year, the volume was 41.1 million tons.
Earlier, the General Director of "Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company" Dmytro Moskalenko stated that the Danube is halting. According to him, in today’s global competitive struggle for export cargo, Danube ports are not even in second place – if products cannot be exported through Black Sea ports, businesses will redirect to Gdańsk or another European port.
Moskalenko proposed establishing a minimum cargo flow volume necessary for the Danube cluster to maintain the significant potential created through the efforts of the state and business at the beginning of the war. In his opinion, for UDP, this minimum is 150,000 tons per month. For comparison, the volume of cargo transportation through Danube ports reached a record 3.2 million tons per month in 2023.
