According to the Austrian Chancellor, the negotiations were lengthy and honest, but it is impossible to reach an agreement with the Social Democratic Party of Austria on key issues. The People's Party is unwilling to agree to measures aimed against benefits and businesses and does not want to introduce new taxes, thus concluding the negotiations without further continuation.

"In the coming days, I will resign as Federal Chancellor and also as the leader of the People's Party, and I will facilitate an orderly transition. This orderly transition is particularly important to me because I have always advocated for stability in our country and in the People's Party," Nehammer summarized.

Recall that in early December 2024, Vladimir Zelensky met with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer in Paris. During this meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for peace in Ukraine. In particular, Nehammer proposed to hold peace negotiations in Vienna.

We also reported that Austria is prepared to accept new refugees from Ukraine if necessary. Currently, about 90,000 Ukrainian displaced persons are in the country, most of whom are women with children.
