The head of the Defense Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, Roman Kostenko, discussed potential obligations in a comment to Novini.LIVE correspondent Halyna Ostapovets.
According to Kostenko, the obligations must be specific, with a clearly outlined plan detailing what each country will do in the event of aggression.
"And they must be precise, down to the establishment of nuclear weapons. Then I understand that these are guarantees, not like what was previously stated in the Budapest Memorandum," he said.
The chairman of the Defense Committee provided an example of what this could look like in the event of renewed aggression by Russia against Ukraine:
"But for this, we certainly need to move forward. Ukraine must be clearly documented as part of the European family — in the EU or NATO," Kostenko added.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that after the war, the responsibility for ensuring security in Ukraine should lie with European countries.
He also suggested the possibility of territorial concessions from Ukraine to Russia during negotiations.
