On January 3rd, a large-scale protest took place in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, attended by several thousand people.
Local media report that participants voiced their opposition to Prime Minister Robert Fico's foreign policy, expressing concerns about the country's European direction and the potential influence of Russia.
About four thousand protesters received posters from renowned artist Rudolf Sikora with slogans such as "betrayal" and "we are Europe." Participants waved flags of Slovakia and the European Union, singing the EU anthem to emphasize the importance of maintaining the country's European orientation.
One of the protest organizers, Vera Dubacheva, stated: "We are also Europe," which was met with applause from the crowd. Another speaker, a Slovak working in Ukraine, highlighted: "Russia is a state waging war."
Artist Rudolf Sikora urged civic organizations to unite with opposition politicians, saying: "This is not about politics, but about fighting evil. Opposition politicians, unite!"
Lucia Stassel, recalling the events of Slovakia's occupation in 1968, remarked: "I will not allow our country to fall under Russian political influence. We are not Russia's rag."
Organizers expressed concerns that the Prime Minister's policies put the country at risk of Kremlin political influence.
