What he has been doing for years in the political landscape of Germany and his perspective on the war in Ukraine is covered in this piece by Novini.LIVE.
The politician serves as Germany's Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection in the government of current Chancellor Olaf Scholz. He is a member of the "Alliance 90/The Greens" party, which he led until 2022.
It's worth noting that this is one of the ruling parties in Germany. The party emerged from social organizations, particularly environmental ones. Their key thesis is sustainable development.
Robert Habeck began his political career with the party, running in local elections in the Schleswig-Flensburg district. From 2012 to 2018, he served as the Minister of the Environment, and in 2017, he was the main candidate for Chancellor.
However, during his university years, Habeck studied philosophy and did not initially consider a career in politics. He began his writing career by authoring children's books and detective stories.
The onset of the war in Ukraine in February 2022 significantly altered the politician's career due to changes in the party's plans. Entering the ruling coalition, they had intended to focus on economic reconstruction, but everything shifted with the decision to abandon Russian gas.
It is important to recall that Chancellor Olaf Scholz supported sanctions against Russia related to "Nord Stream 2". Habeck has advocated for supplying weapons to Ukraine.
However, he began to worry about the standard of living in Germany, particularly regarding food prices, as the war in Ukraine has impacted this as well.
Just a year later, in February 2023, he stated: "Putin started the war, and independence from energy supplies from Russia also means that Putin will no longer have income. It is undeniable that we, our society, are paying a certain price for this. High inflation, high energy prices."
In April 2024, Habeck arrived in Kyiv with a delegation, stating that Ukraine needs support in its fight for freedom.
"Yes, Ukraine is fighting for its own self-determination, for its territorial integrity against Putin's aggression, but it is also fighting for the values that unite and define Europe," Habeck said during his visit.
Currently, the chances of his party winning in the upcoming government elections are low.
