Vyacheslav Zinchenko stated that his daughter's lawyer, Irina Farion, managed to convince the judge and the investigation to reclassify the criminal case instead of uncovering the objective circumstances of the crime.

"I deny my guilt. What happened to me? I declared a hunger strike six times, but it was purely formal because I was not starving. The most important thing is that I want to congratulate everyone on the New Year holidays," Zinchenko told reporters.

Zinchenko's mother was able to speak with him before the trial began, but the details of their conversation are unknown to the journalists.

Recall that in Lviv on Friday, January 3, the start of the court session in Irina Farion's case was delayed due to a report of a bomb threat at the courthouse.

Recently, Vyacheslav Zinchenko's crime was reclassified, which means he faces a harsher punishment if found guilty. Investigators established that on July 19 of this year, the 18-year-old accused fired a shot at Irina Farion from a distance of about two meters. The assailant used a pistol and then fled the crime scene. Law enforcement also discovered that the accused joined a group in one of the messengers back in 2022, which promoted a culture of violence and cruelty, as well as inciting racial, national, and religious hatred and discrimination.

The defendant's lawyer insisted that Vyacheslav Zinchenko is not guilty of the murder, claiming he was "in the wrong place at the wrong time."
