According to Poroshenko, footage from prisoner exchanges shows that the soldiers are in a severe physical and psychological state.

"We can see, even from the footage showing our prisoners of war returning, what condition they are in. They are exhausted, worn out, often with scars and injured. We understand how difficult these thousand days in captivity have been for them," the council member stated.

She added that, according to the most optimistic estimates, around 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers are currently in captivity. Additionally, as of September 2024, 55,000 individuals are considered missing.

"When you think about all our defenders who are currently behind bars, within the walls of enemy prisons, it is horrifying. We must do everything possible to secure their release," Poroshenko concluded.

Recall that on January 6, a rally in support of the marines took place in the center of Kyiv, at Independence Square. The defenders, who notably held the defense of "Azovstal," are still in captivity.

Additionally, the day before, the first Free Azov rally of the year took place in Kyiv in support of prisoners of war and the missing. People took to the streets to remind the world of the fighters held by Russia.
