According to the analysis, Ukraine has received 31 M1A1 SA tanks, most of which were destroyed or damaged shortly after their initial deployment on the battlefield. Incidents involving these combat vehicles highlighted the need to address issues related to survivability and protection against modern threats, such as anti-tank missiles and drones. In light of this, the development of the upgraded M1A3 Abrams tank, or M1E3, takes this experience into account.
Specifically, the tank will feature new technologies, including a hybrid-electric drive to reduce fuel consumption, as well as a modular system that will allow for quick updates to the equipment in accordance with new requirements. Moreover, the tank will be equipped with an unmanned turret, minimizing risk to the crew, and will integrate an active protection system to combat drones and aerial munitions.
There are also expectations for the use of artificial intelligence to enhance accuracy and efficiency in fire control, which will significantly improve situational awareness during combat.
Previously, we reported that for the first time since the onset of full-scale war, the Armed Forces of Ukraine may have a tank advantage over Russian units.
Let us remind you that 2024 has become a record year for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in terms of destroyed equipment and personnel of the Russian army.
