Russia launched drone and missile attacks on Ukraine overnight—here’s how the air defense systems responded.

On the night of January 24-25, 2025, the adversary launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine using guided aerial missiles X-59/69 and 61 strike drones of the "Shahed" type, along with drone decoys. The assault originated from the airspace over the Black Sea and Russian territory, coming from the directions of Orel, Kursk, Bryansk, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.

This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian Air Forces.

Russian Drone Attack on January 24

The Ukrainian Air Forces, along with defense units, successfully repelled the attack using anti-aircraft missile troops, mobile fire groups, and electronic warfare (EW) systems.

They managed to destroy two guided air missiles X-59/69, shoot down 46 attack drones of the Shahed type, and other UAVs. Additionally, 15 drones were lost locally, but they did not cause any negative consequences.

Consequences of the Russian Drone Attack on January 24

The attacks targeted 11 regions of Ukraine, including Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Cherkasy, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Khmelnytskyi, and Kirovohrad.

Despite the effective work of air defense, there are recorded damages in Kyiv, Cherkasy, and Khmelnytskyi regions. Enemy UAVs inflicted damage on the buildings of enterprises, institutions, multi-apartment and private houses, as well as vehicles. Currently, special services are working on eliminating the consequences, and the affected individuals are receiving necessary assistance.

Recall that in Kyiv region, a drone crashed into a nine-story building. In Cherkasy region, thousands of consumers were left without electricity due to the drone attack.
