The events currently unfolding in the area of Velyka Novosilka represent the most significant failure of Ukrainian defense in 2024.
This was reported by military-political analyst Oleksandr Kovalenko from the "Information Resistance" group on his Telegram channel.
Enemy units are already attempting to conduct assault operations in the eastern and northeastern parts of Velyka Novosilka, trying to establish a foothold on the outskirts. The main directions of the occupiers' strikes are the roads 0509 and 0510.
According to the expert, the 0509 road, with the right defensive approach, could have turned into a nightmare for the Russian army, potentially delaying them for one and a half to two months. However, it ended up being an easy walk for them with minimal losses.
Oleksandr Kovalenko noted that the movement of the occupiers along the road began on November 18, and by the 24th, they had reached the southeastern outskirts of Velyka Novosilka. Meanwhile, the enemy has expanded its success in the Shakhtarsk area and gained access to the eastern outskirts of the settlement via 0510, which likely was not properly fortified either.
"What can one say… At this rate, they will indeed reach Zaporizhzhia or Dnipro. It seems that no defense around Velyka Novosilka has been established in the past two years. The kind of defense that this vital junction at the intersection of Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipropetrovsk regions deserved," Oleksandr Kovalenko added.
