Советник Трампа объяснил, почему Гренландия имеет стратегическое значение для США.

Trump's advisor explained the significance of Greenland to the United States.

Recently elected U.S. President Donald Trump has revived his proposal to establish control over Greenland, even suggesting the possibility of purchasing the island. This is due to Greenland's significance for the national security of the United States.

In an interview with Fox News, future national security advisor to Trump, Mike Waltz, made this statement, according to Reuters.

Why Trump Wants to Acquire Greenland

The agency reports that during the interview, Waltz was asked about Donald Trump's desire to establish U.S. control over the Arctic island. Specifically, the journalist noted that the U.S. "has Russia, which is trying to become the king of the Arctic, with over 60 icebreakers, some of which are nuclear." To which Waltz, apparently interrupting the host, responded as follows.

"We have two, and one just caught fire. This is about critically important minerals. This is about natural resources. This is about the fact that as polar ice caps retreat, the Chinese are now building icebreakers and moving in. So this is oil and gas. This is our national security," said Trump's advisor.

The publication clarifies that Trump, who will take office as president on January 20, refused on Tuesday to rule out the use of military or economic actions to acquire the island, which is part of Denmark's autonomous territory. During his first presidential term, Donald Trump suggested that Denmark sell Greenland to the U.S., but the Danish government rejected this idea.

It is worth noting that recently the elected president of the United States stated that an agreement should be reached for Greenland's accession to the U.S. This statement followed a visit to the island by his son, Donald Trump Jr., along with representatives of the Republican Party.

Additionally, we reported that after statements made by Trump Sr., King Frederik X of Denmark altered the royal coat of arms. He made the symbols of Greenland and the Faroe Islands more prominent.
