During his speech in Davos, Donald Trump stated that agreements for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine will be reached. He assured that the world will become more peaceful and prosperous.
As Trump pointed out, buildings and entire cities are being destroyed due to the war in Ukraine. He expressed his desire to meet with Putin soon to negotiate a ceasefire.
"The only thing that stops enemy bullets is the bodies of people. I have seen the photos of what is happening (in Ukraine. — Ed.) — it is true barbarism, a real slaughter. I am not talking about the economy, not about natural resources, but about so many young people who are dying on the battlefield," said Trump.
He also stated that Ukraine is already ready for a ceasefire agreement, but it is necessary to understand Russia's position. Trump added that the war might not have started if he had remained in office.
"Ukraine is already ready to negotiate. Now it is necessary to ask Russia. This war should never have started if I had been president at the time; it would not have started," noted the U.S. president.
Trump added that he had a good relationship with Vladimir Putin during his first presidency. He was convinced that Russia would not attack Ukraine.
"And then, when I was not president, a lot of bad things happened, someone said something bad to someone, all sorts of nonsense occurred, and then bombs started falling on Ukrainian cities, and a lot of people died," said Trump.
According to the White House chief, significantly more people have died during the war in Ukraine than reported in the news. He emphasized that some cities have been destroyed, and dozens of people die during each attack.
"When you hear in the news that only one person was affected, that is not true. In reality, many people die during each attack. I see photos, and when they say that a few people, two people died, that is false. In reality, it is several dozen," Trump stated.
Additionally, the U.S. has urged all NATO countries to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP. Trump believes that this decision will reduce the financial burden on the U.S.
"I urge you to increase defense spending. Previously, we compensated for this difference, but I think that was unfair," noted Trump.
The U.S. president also added that he intends to turn the United States into a superpower in manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and cryptocurrency. Trump promised international companies some of the lowest taxes in the world and urged them to relocate production to the U.S.
It is worth noting that Poland's Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski also spoke at the forum in Davos. He offered advice to Donald Trump's new team regarding Vladimir Putin.
Poland's President Andrzej Duda also attended the forum in Davos. He stated that partners should increase pressure on the Russian dictator to prompt him to discuss negotiations sooner.
