Украина призывает вернуться на родину — как это воспринимают во Львове?

Ukraine calls for a return home — what are the thoughts in Lviv?

In January 2025, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine announced the establishment of the Agency for National Unity, aimed at supporting Ukrainian communities abroad and strengthening ties with the diaspora. The agency will operate under the guidance of the Ministry of National Unity of Ukraine and plans to open departments in Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic.

Novini.LIVE asked people on the streets of Lviv whether they support such an initiative.

Unity Agency — Ukrainians Will Be Brought Back Home

The majority of respondents believe that this initiative will ease the process of returning Ukrainians home. Others note that the success of this initiative will depend on specific measures and support from the government.

"I believe the government made the right decision. Ukrainians should support the economy at home and back their army," says a woman.

"They won't return to Ukraine. Because life is better abroad than in Ukraine. If I lived abroad, I wouldn't come back because there's nothing to do here," notes a man.

"I am against this initiative because the government has done nothing to keep Ukrainians here," states a surveyed woman.

"I oppose it. There are no jobs here, no housing for the displaced. The government does not care about us," adds a displaced person.

"I have a positive attitude towards this. Ukrainians should be everywhere, but they need to return home," says a respondent.

Additionally, the main tasks of the National Unity Agency will include:

  • stimulating the return of citizens to Ukraine;
  • strengthening ties with Ukraine and encouraging support for Ukraine abroad;
  • advising Ukrainians living abroad about support programs and assistance in addressing problematic issues;
  • resolving complex issues and problems related to the return of citizens to Ukraine;
  • facilitating Ukraine's integration into the global space.

Recall that earlier, Minister of National Unity Oleksiy Chernyshov reported on the number of Ukrainians currently living in other countries. According to him, it concerns 20-25 million people.

We also discussed why Ukrainian citizens with a second passport may not be allowed to leave the country.
