The Ukrainian agricultural sector set a second historical record in 2024, achieving $24.5 billion in foreign currency earnings from agricultural product exports, as reported by Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Vitaliy Koval in an interview with Ukrainian Radio.
"If we sum up the year 2024, it brought us the second-best result in terms of foreign currency earnings from exports. We set a second historical record – $24.5 billion came into the country from the agricultural sector's exports. This is a positive indicator," he stated.
The minister reminded that the best year for foreign currency earnings from agro-exports was 2021, when the agricultural sector earned $27.7 billion due to a high harvest.
Koval pointed out that compared to 2023, the foreign currency earnings from agricultural exports increased by more than $2 billion.
"I believe that 2024 was a year of resilience for the entire agricultural sector. Ukrainian farmers endured, stood firm, and showcased their best qualities. The fact that we managed to gather a decent harvest of 75 million tons of grains and oilseeds, despite mined lands and military actions, is a commendable result, especially considering that the year was dry and we had to acknowledge a loss in yields. Overall, Ukraine not only withstood the challenges but also strengthened its agricultural capacity," the minister of agrarian policy concluded.
