The Ukrainian agricultural sector continues to operate, ensuring international food security and supplying products for 400 million people in over 120 countries worldwide, stated Deputy Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food Lyudmyla Shemelinets.
During the second international conference "Crimea Global. Understanding Ukraine through the South," the Deputy Minister emphasized that for Ukraine, it is crucial to expand the reach of Ukrainian agricultural products beyond Europe to new markets. The country has already made strides in this area and plans to enter more markets soon.
"As part of the initiative "Grain from Ukraine," ships carrying agricultural products (wheat, corn, flour, vegetable oil) have been sent to Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Yemen, Nigeria, Sudan, Palestine, Malawi, Mozambique, Djibouti, Mauritania, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. These countries have highly appreciated the quality of Ukrainian products, which has resulted in a pool of potential buyers with whom we need to develop relationships and establish distribution," - quoted her speech the press service of the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food.
Moreover, she noted that among the potential countries where Ukraine could supply food are those in Latin America and the Caribbean (Bolivia, Honduras, Ecuador, Guatemala, Colombia, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Belize), as well as the Middle East and Africa (Lebanon, Comoros, Chad, Ghana).
"Today we have a positive export dynamic. In fact, even during the large-scale war, Ukraine did not experience a decline in monetary value. On average, the annual foreign exchange earnings from agro-exports amount to $22 billion. Our products are in demand in Southeast Asia and African countries, so diversifying the supply channels for our products is an obligation and a priority for the Ministry of Agricultural Policy," - she concluded.
