This is reported by the online cinema publication Moviegram.

Film about Odessa at Berlinale 2025

The documentary "When Lightning Strikes Over the Sea" is directed by Eva Neiman. It is known that the film has been selected for the Forum section, which traditionally introduces viewers to unconventional cinematic stories. The 75th Berlin International Film Festival will take place from February 13 to 25, 2025, and will be a significant event in the world of cinema.

Additionally, it is worth noting that the Forum section does not offer official awards; however, its participants can compete for inter-sectional prizes, which increases the film's chances for international recognition.

"When Lightning Strikes Over the Sea"

The film depicts life in Odessa during the full-scale invasion. Its protagonists include a widow who cares for homeless cats, a boy with dreams of the sea, and a philosopher whose life has been marked by the war. The film continues the themes of Neiman's previous work "Privoz," which also explored life in Odessa, focusing on one of Ukraine's most famous markets.

Let us remind you that the house of the McCallister family from the film "Home Alone" was sold for more than the starting price. We also reported that the film about the war in Ukraine "Rock, Paper, Scissors" was nominated for a prestigious film award.
