Урсула фон дер Ляйен заявила о начале новой геополитической эпохи.

Ursula von der Leyen warned about a new era of geopolitics.

Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, addressed the European Parliament, highlighting the imminent changes in global politics. She warned of the onset of a new era of geostrategic competition.

This was stated during her speech at the European Parliament, as reported by The Guardian.

Ursula von der Leyen Warned About Changing Geopolitics

Von der Leyen noted that "the rules of the game are changing" and Europe must adapt to new realities. She emphasized that although the values of the European Union remain unchanged, approaches to their protection must evolve.

Von der Leyen pointed out the increasing competition among major geopolitical players.

"It has only been three weeks into 2025, but changes in global politics are already noticeable. We have entered a new era of intense geostrategic competition. The rules of engagement are shifting. Some in Europe may not like this new reality, but we must contend with it. Our values do not change, but to protect them, certain things must change. First and foremost, we need to work at home," said Ursula von der Leyen.

It is noteworthy that Ursula von der Leyen did not mention specific countries or politicians. However, Western media interpreted her words as a call for unity among EU members and the necessity to respond to challenges such as Russian influence, China's rise, and uncertainty in transatlantic relations.

Recall that recently, Donald Trump instructed his representative for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, to end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible, giving him only 100 days to do so.

In early January, Ursula von der Leyen reported that the EU had already paid Ukraine the first tranche from Russia's frozen assets.
