The threats from the Russian Federation to halt the activities of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in the occupied city of Enerhodar, Zaporizhzhia region, confirm that the Kremlin has no intention of adhering to any norms of international law, as stated by the National Atomic Energy Company "Energoatom".
"The seizure of the ZNPP, the deployment of military personnel and equipment there, the shelling of critical infrastructure, and manipulations with energy security are clear indicators of Russia's nuclear terrorism. The continued operation of the IAEA at the ZNPP is not only a matter of Ukraine's safety but also of global peace. The international community must ensure continuous monitoring and hold Russia accountable," the statement published on "Energoatom's" website on Friday reads.
The statement notes that the Russian Foreign Ministry threatens to stop the IAEA mission due to comments made by its Director General Rafael Grossi, indicating that experts will remain at the station "until a possible ceasefire," rather than by his permission.
"Energoatom" highlighted that the presence of international IAEA experts at the ZNPP and other nuclear power plants in Ukraine is a result of agreements reached during the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Grossi. "Ukraine demonstrates openness and readiness for cooperation, unlike Russia, which continues to act as a nuclear terrorist state, disregarding international laws and regulations," the statement from the National Atomic Energy Company emphasizes.
