In Ukraine, cotton cultivation will expand to 30,000 hectares by 2025, and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food plans to launch relevant financing programs for farmers who engage in cotton production, reported Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Vitaliy Koval.
"Cotton is a crop used for producing gunpowder. During wartime, such raw material is very important for Ukraine. Additionally, cotton can be used to produce fabric and oil," he noted.
Koval reminded that Ukraine is concluding the harvest of its first cotton crop. Test plantations were established in Odessa this spring across 8 farms and one research site of the Ukrainian Institute of Plant Variety Examination. These are small areas ranging from 0.2 to 0.5 hectares.
Agrarians have already received 110 kg of cotton seeds, which were sown over an area exceeding 5 hectares. A total of five cotton varieties have been imported into Ukraine: two from the USA, two from Germany, and one from Turkey.
