Journalist from New Zealand

Tom arrived in Ukraine before the large-scale war against Russian occupiers began. He works as a journalist for a local publication in New Zealand and reports on events from the front for other media outlets.

He mentions that the Ukrainian language is quite challenging for him, particularly due to its cases and the specifics of Slavic languages. Nevertheless, Tom is determined to continue his studies of the language.

It is worth noting that writer Oksana Zabuzhko explained why it is incorrect to use the phrase "зізнаватися у коханні" in the Ukrainian language.

Additionally, Elena Synchak, an associate professor at the Philology Department of the Ukrainian Catholic University, pointed out that many women deliberately avoid feminatives. In her view, this is influenced by the linguistic norms that have become established in society.
