The Prime Minister of Moldova, Dorin Recean, is counting on the support of external partners to overcome the energy crisis.
According to the government press service, he made this statement on Thursday during a meeting with ambassadors accredited in Chisinau and representatives of international organizations.
As reported, the participants of the meeting analyzed the issues in Moldova's energy sector due to the cessation of Russian gas supplies to the Transnistrian region. They "discussed options for mitigating the effects of the gas supply interruption for citizens and businesses in the short term and promoting Moldova's energy security in the long term. They also reviewed a list of needs for external assistance to support the citizens and state institutions of Moldova in strengthening the country's energy and economic resilience," the press service informed.
Recean spoke about the support provided to residents in the Security Zone along the Dniester, who are left without electricity. This concerns 14 localities that are administratively subordinate to the constitutional authorities of Moldova but are connected to the gas and electricity networks of the left bank of the Dniester. They are also facing an energy crisis similar to that of Transnistria.
"The Republic of Moldova will continue to assist the residents of the region, enhancing efforts in dialogue with the administration in Tiraspol. If a real mechanism for gas supply is needed, we are ready to provide it," confirmed the Moldovan Prime Minister.
According to the press release, diplomats expressed their countries' readiness to support the authorities and citizens in both the short and long term to overcome the current situation, including by contributing to the increase of the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund.
