The chairman of the supervisory board of the NAEC "Energoatom" is now Jarek Neverovich, the former Minister of Energy of Lithuania and chief advisor to the President of Lithuania on environmental and infrastructure issues, as reported by a source from the online portal "EnergoReform" in the government.
Neverovich is an independent member of the "Energoatom" supervisory board, which was formed back in June 2024 but has yet to operate effectively.
He has held various positions in his country's government related to the operation of the electricity transmission system, management of investment funds, and collaboration with national and multinational corporations.
Previously, it was reported that the supervisory board of "Energoatom" would elect its chairman on Friday, January 17, and begin functioning fully, as stated by Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.
"I believe the issue of corruption will be resolved... Today, they are electing the chairman of the supervisory board ("Energoatom" - ER) in full. Consequently, there will be a functioning supervisory board that will monitor all decisions made. From a corporate governance perspective, I think this is the best solution," he said during the "Hour of Questions to the Government," which is broadcast by people's deputy Oleksiy Honcharenko (European Solidarity faction).
The Cabinet of Ministers approved independent members of the "Energoatom" supervisory board Timothy Stone, Michael Kirst, and Jarek Neverovich, along with state representatives Tymofiy Milovanov and Vitaliy Petruk, through order No. 566 dated June 21, 2024.
Since then, the supervisory board has not fully commenced its work. Sources from the Interfax-Ukraine agency indicated that the independent members were dissatisfied with the amount of compensation.
By order No. 1224 dated November 26, 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the terms of contracts with the members of the NAEC supervisory board without revealing details.
In December of the same year, First Deputy Minister of Economy Oleksiy Sobolev announced that the government is awaiting the positions of the independent members of the "Energoatom" supervisory board, whose first meeting has been pending since July 17, regarding the contracts and their readiness to continue working. According to him, the proposed terms align with salaries in other large energy companies in Ukraine.
In early January 2025, Ukrainian people's deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak (Voice faction) suggested involving international partners in discussions about the disruption of the functioning of the NAEC "Energoatom" supervisory board.
EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Maternova, in response to a letter from the Interfax-Ukraine agency on January 14, stated that G7 ambassadors urged Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal to ensure the prompt operation of the NAEC "Energoatom" supervisory board. According to her, having a full board will be crucial for discussing new significant investments.
