When the fighting begins in the Dnipropetrovsk region, it may differ somewhat from what is currently happening in the Donetsk region.
This was stated by military expert, veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, and reserve major of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexey Hetman, in an interview with Glavred.
According to the expert, Donbas is highly urbanized, with one settlement transitioning into another, while in Dnipropetrovsk, where there are more fields, it is necessary to construct fortifications and defensive lines to prevent the enemy from advancing. It is also crucial to seize dominating heights to utilize the terrain for maintaining defense.
The military expert noted that theoretically, the speed of advancement of Russian occupying forces in Dnipropetrovsk may be greater than in the Donetsk region. However, this speed will not significantly increase because making substantial progress in Dnipropetrovsk means becoming detached from supply lines, complicating logistics for the occupiers.
"That means they must constantly ensure that supply lines are maintained to provide for those directly at the front, so they have what they need to fight and fuel their equipment, and to maintain communication. We understand that all electronic warfare systems and everything else operate on batteries; they can't just be plugged into a socket, there’s nowhere to charge them, so they need to be delivered," explained Alexey Hetman.
The expert added that even now, Russian occupiers are trying to bypass even small settlements to advance as much as possible, so there will not be a significant difference in Dnipropetrovsk.
