This was stated by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko at the forum "Democratic Resilience of Ukraine During War and Recovery," as reported by a correspondent from Novyny.LIVE.
According to Klitschko, the so-called compromise regarding the end of the war could be very painful for every Ukrainian.
"Right now, we can predict the end of hostilities in a month or two. It’s unclear under what conditions, but I am certain it will be hard to call it a positive outcome. The so-called compromise might turn out to be extremely painful for each Ukrainian. We all understand this, taking many factors into account," he stated.
The Mayor of Kyiv emphasized that after the war concludes, an electoral battle will begin, which could lead to unrest in the country.
"Maintaining an army is an expensive undertaking. Currently, we have nearly a million military personnel. After the hostilities cease, at least a third of the army will need to transition to reserve status. These are individuals who are receiving salaries now, but when they return to civilian life, they will need to find jobs as quickly as possible. It is during this period that the electoral struggle will commence. I am very concerned that it could turn into a fight to the death. Political forces will compete with one another, using the same slogans. Given all the circumstances, I am very worried that this may lead to unrest, or even worse—a civil confrontation or conflict. History from various countries shows that after military actions, when society is in a depressive state, such situations have already occurred," Klitschko remarked.
The capital's leader added that it is crucial for politicians to work in unity now, as the electoral process is always characterized by conflict and mutual accusations.
"That is why there are certain warnings. In this context, it is extremely important to emphasize what we discuss every day—unity and consolidation. This applies to both the authorities and society. However, alongside elections, which are traditionally accompanied by mutual accusations, this will become the most significant challenge. And for now, I am convinced that there is no answer to it. But it must be found," Klitschko concluded.
Earlier, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that political electoral processes in the country have already begun.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky mentioned that the topic of elections in Ukraine is being raised by the Russian Federation, as it seeks a "puppet president" in our country.
