Vyacheslav Zinchenko stated that his daughter Irina Farion's lawyer managed to persuade the judge and the investigation to reclassify the criminal case rather than to clarify the objective circumstances of the crime.
"I deny my guilt. What happened to me? I declared a hunger strike six times, but it was purely formal, as I was not actually starving. Most importantly, I want to congratulate everyone on the New Year holidays," Zinchenko told reporters.
Vyacheslav Zinchenko's mother managed to speak with him before the start of the trial, but the details of their conversation remain unknown to journalists.
Let us remind you that in Lviv on Friday, January 3, the start of the court hearing in the case of Irina Farion was delayed due to a report of a bomb threat at the courthouse.
Recently, Vyacheslav Zinchenko had his crime reclassified, which means he faces a harsher penalty if found guilty. Investigators determined that on July 19 of this year, the 18-year-old accused fired a shot at Irina Farion from a distance of about two meters. The assailant used a pistol and then fled the crime scene. Law enforcement also found that the accused had joined a group in one of the messaging apps back in 2022 that promoted a culture of violence and cruelty, as well as incited racial, national, and religious hatred and discrimination.
The defendant's lawyer insisted that Vyacheslav Zinchenko is not guilty of the murder, claiming he was "in the wrong place at the wrong time."
