This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Monday, January 6.
According to the General Staff, the operation in the Kursk region aimed to prevent enemy advancement in the Sumy region and to establish a "buffer zone." The offensive by Ukrainian forces in this area compelled Russia to redeploy significant resources to the Kursk region.
"The invaders have concentrated some of the most capable units of airborne troops, naval infantry, and special forces there. Additionally, Russia was forced to urgently request assistance from North Korea, which sent nearly 12,000 of its soldiers to Russia. About 4,000 of them have already been eliminated, and some units have lost their combat effectiveness," the General Staff reports.
Over five months of active combat, the total losses of the occupiers in personnel exceeded 38,000, with around 15,000 killed. Moreover, Ukrainian soldiers have destroyed:
Additionally, Ukrainian forces captured 860 Russian soldiers, significantly increasing the exchange fund. This allowed for the return of hundreds of Ukrainian defenders who were held in Russian prisons.
As a reminder, Ukrainian defender Andriy Kryvushchenko commented on the start of hostilities in the Kursk region. According to him, this is a joker in the Ukrainian strategy.
